Records indicate that Francois (Louis) Richards after serving with Layette 1777 in America's fight for independence came north to Chazy New York and then on to the Massena area. He made stops at Mill Roche Ontario then to Branhart Island, Long Sault Island, then to Richards Landing. He settled at last at Racket River where his children were born and baptized at St. Regis, Quebec.
