Obituary J. F. Wycoff, one of Barron's well known citizens, died rather suddenly Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Mr. Wykoff had been ill about a week with grippe when pneumonia set in and at his advanced age his system proved too feeble to overcome the attack.
Mr. Wycoff had been a resident of Barron for many years and was a Grand Army veteran. A short time ago he and his wife had visited at Baraboo and as he had been about in apparently good health until last week, his demise came as a great shock to acquaintances.
James Finley Wycoff was born in OH, Feb. 12, 1833. He moved to Ind. when a young man, enlisting there in Co. I., 90th Ind, serving in that regiment thirty-four months. Mr. Wycoff moved to Barron county, Wis., in the spring of 1882, where he had since lived, until he answered the last roll call, January 5, 1916. Deceased leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife and four sons, Finley of Ind., Charles of Barron, Bert of Ladysmith and Ed. [Archie] of Cumberland, and one brother [Charles].
The funeral will be held today, January 6,; meeting at the house at 10 a.m., and from there to the M.E. church where the funeral services will be conducted by Rev. E. Harris. Interment in Wayside cemetery. [Thursday, January 6, 1916 in the Barron County Shield, Barron.]
