Elbert F. Skinne… KILLED IN WRECK E. F. Skinner, Late of Maple Grove, Killed on His Way to the Coast. Elbert F. Skinner, recently of Maple Grove, where he was an old settler, sold his farm last week and left on Monday, with his family, for Washington. They left St. Paul yesterday afternoon, and when the train was a few miles out of that city it was wrecked, and Mr. Skinner was among the killed. His brother, William A. Skinner, of this city, received a dispatch last evening conveying the news of the calamity, and left for St. Paul today to render what assistance he can to his brother's family. Mr. A. F. Skinner, one of Barron county's earliest settlers, died at the home of his daught… Obituary Mr. A. F. Skinner, one of Barron county's earliest settlers, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. R. Beckwith, on Friday, January 24, after a long illness. Mr. Skinner enlisted in 1864 in Company I, 49th Wisconsin Volunteers and was discharged in 1865. They moved to Barron county in 1869, being among the very first white settlers of the county. Mrs. Skinner died five years ago. He leaves six children, 32 grand children and 2 great grand children. His children are Mrs. J. R. [Elva] Beckwith, of Barron, Mrs. William [Mary] Rafferty, of Kline, Colorado; Mrs. David [Alice] Hulbert, of Maple Grove; William Alfred Skinner, of Barron, and Ernest Skinner, of Dresser Junction. The funeral was held from the home of J. R. Beckwith Sunday, Rev. G.H. R. Kershaw officiating. Interment was in the Barron cemetery. [Friday, January 31, 1908, Barron County Shield, Barron, Wis. ] |
